429th Electronic Combat Squadron
USAF 32d Electronic Combat Squadron
The 32d Tactical Fighter Squadron “Wolfhounds” is one of the most distinctive USAFE units, with a history spanning the Second World War, Cold War air defence of Europe, and later air operations command roles. Known for its unique Dutch Royal crest and Walt Disney-designed wolf emblem, the squadron became closely associated with Camp New Amsterdam at Soesterberg Air Base in the Netherlands.
USAF 38th Bombardment Wing, Tactical Missile Wing
The USAF 38th Wing lineage includes the 38th Bombardment Wing, 38th Tactical Missile Wing, 38th Flying Training Wing, 38th Engineering Installation Wing and 38th Combat Support Wing, serving in roles ranging from strategic bombing and pilot training to Cold War nuclear missile operations and global communications support. From B-26 Invader operations in post-war Japan to BGM-109G Gryphon Ground Launched Cruise Missile deployments in West Germany, the 38th Wing played an important role in United States Air Force and NATO operations during the Cold War era.
USAF 48th Bombardment Wing, Tactical Fighter Wing, Fighter Wing
The 48th Fighter Wing is one of the best known United States Air Forces in Europe formations of the Cold War and modern era. Known as the “Statue of Liberty Wing,” the 48th became closely associated with RAF Lakenheath in England and operated some of the USAF’s most important tactical fighter aircraft including the F-84 Thunderjet, F-86 Sabre, F-100 Super Sabre, F-4 Phantom II, F-111F Aardvark, F-15 Eagle and F-35A Lightning II.
The Wing traces its origins to the 48th Bombardment Group activated on 15 January 1941 before later becoming the 48th Fighter-Bomber Group during WWII. The modern USAFE unit was activated as the 48th Fighter Bomber Wing at Chaumont-Semoutiers Air Base France on 10 July 1952 on the redesignation of the 137th Fighter Bomber Wing
USAF 429th Electronic Combat Squadron
The 429th Electronic Combat Squadron has a long and distinguished history spanning the Second World War, Korea, the Cold War, and modern electronic warfare operations. From its origins as a fighter squadron flying the P-38 Lightning to its final role operating the EF-111A Raven, the squadron played a key role in both tactical air operations and electronic combat missions.
