Military Aeronautics Aeronáutica Militar was formed as part of the Army on 28 February 1913
The Spanish Civil war in 1936 split Military Aeronautics into two - the Air Force of the Spanish Republican Government and the National Aviation Aviación Nacional established by the Nationalist Rebels.
With the Nationalist Victory the Spanish Air Force Ejército del Aire EdA established on 7 October 1939.
Renamed Spanish Air and Space Force Ejército del Aire y del Espacio on 9 January 2024

Naval Aviation Aviación Naval established on 13 September 1917. Inactivated in 1939 when it joined Army Air Fore to form the new Spanish Air Force the Ejército del Aire
Spanish Naval Aviation Flotilla de Aeronaves FLOAN formed at Marín Pontevedra in 1954 to provide shipborne helicopter force for maritime defense. Move to Rota Air Station 1957.
Fixed Wing Carrier operations with AV-8S/TAV-8S Harriers delivered to 8 Squadron 8ª Escuadrilla in 1976 for Carrier Dédalo R-01.

New Carrier Príncipe de Astúrias R-11 replaced Dédalo in 1989
New Carrier Juan Carlos I (L-61) replaced Príncipe de Astúrias in 2013
Helicopter Squadron 3rd (AB212), 5th (SH-3D/SH-3W), 6th (Hughes 500), and 10th (SH-60B/F).
14th Squadron is currently integrating the new NH90 MSPT helicopter.
11th Squadron operates the Boeing/Insitu ScanEagle UAV.
