The Sultan of Oman's Air Force (SOAF) was the aerial warfare branch of Oman prior to becoming the Royal Air Force of Oman in 1990. During the Cold War era, the SOAF played a crucial role in defending the Sultanate and supporting counter-insurgency operations, particularly during the Dhofar conflict, while developing into one of the Gulf region’s most capable military air arms.
