Malayan Auxiliary Air Force formations of the Royal Air Force were established in 1936. MAAF later became the Straits Settlements Volunteer Air Force (SSVAF) and in 1940 the Malayan Volunteers Air Force (MVAF). MVAF was disbanded in 1942 during the Japanese advance over Malaya. Malayan Volunteers Air Force was re-established in 1950 and contributed greatly to the war effort during the Malayan Emergency. MVAF was redesignated the Royal Federation of Malaya Air Force (RFMAF) on 2 June 1958 the birth of the RMAF.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia – TUDM) has been a central part of Malaysia’s national defence. The Air Force operates fighter, transport, maritime patrol and helicopter aircraft. It plays a vital role in protecting Malaysian airspace, supporting regional security and conducting humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

The Royal Brunei Air Force (Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei) is the aerial component of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. It was founded in May 1965 as the Air Service of the Royal Brunei Malay Regiment. ASRBMR was initially focused on medical evacuations using helicopters. It was redesignated the Air Wing of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 1972. Susequently on 1 October 1991 AWRBAF was officially renamed the Royal Brunei Air Force.
