$28.99
USAF ANG 113rd TFW Tactical Fighter Wing Patch 1981 District Of Columbia Air National Guard ANG F-4 Phantom II Andrews AFB Air Force One for the White House
This USAF ANG 113rd TFW Patch characteristics:
Uniform removed Embroidered on twill cut edge 76mm by 71mm three inches by two and thirteen sixteenth inches.
Patch History
This original 113th Tactical Fighter Wing patch dates from 1981 and represents the District of Columbia Air National Guard, headquartered at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Removed from a uniform and embroidered on twill with a cut edge, the patch was worn during the period when the Wing operated the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II while simultaneously supporting one of the United States Air Force’s most visible peacetime missions.
The striking wing emblem depicts a black Phantom II climbing through the clouds against a green sky, symbolising the Wing’s tactical fighter capability during the height of the Cold War. The shield is surrounded by the title “113 Tactical Fighter Wing”, identifying the headquarters responsible for commanding the 121st Tactical Fighter Squadron, the District of Columbia Air National Guard’s flying unit.
During the early 1980s, the 121st Tactical Fighter Squadron flew the F-4D Phantom II, maintaining combat readiness for the Tactical Air Command while standing prepared for worldwide mobilisation. Alongside its fighter mission, the 113th Tactical Fighter Wing also provided operational and logistical support from Andrews AFB, home of the Presidential airlift fleet and the famous 89th Military Airlift Wing, responsible for operating Air Force One. This unique location gave the Wing an important role within one of the United States’ most strategically significant air bases.
The Wing later transitioned from the F-4 Phantom II to the F-16 Fighting Falcon, eventually becoming the 113th Wing, continuing its mission with the District of Columbia Air National Guard into the modern era.
Original Cold War Air National Guard wing patches removed from service uniforms are increasingly difficult to obtain and are highly collectable, particularly those connected with Andrews Air Force Base, Air Force One, and the defence of the U.S. National Capital Region.
