Squadron History

404 Maritime Reconnaissance Squadron Buffalo was activated on 30 April 1951 at RCAF Station Greenwood Nova Scotia with modified maritime Lancaster aircraft The Squadron received its first Neptune patrol aircraft on 30 March 1955 with the last Lancaster leaving at the end of 1956. 404 MR Squadron was redesignated 404 Maritime Patrol Squadron on 17 July 1956 to carry out long range anti submarine maritime patrol squadron equipped with the CP 107 Argus.

The Squadron was redesignated 404 Maritime Training Squadron on 1 September 1975. On 1 June 1982 the Squadron was renamed 404 Maritime Patrol and Training Squadron and reequipped with modified P 3C Orion patrol aircraft designated CP 140 Aurora. The Squadron was renamed 404 Long Range Patrol and Training LRPT Squadron and acts as the Operational Training Unit OTU for Aircrew and Maintenance personnel who work on the CP 140 Aurora and CP 140 A Arcturus and remains at CFB Greenwood under 14 Wing.
