Product Description
This rare original Argentine Army Aviation patch was produced during the Argentine Army’s evaluation of the Bell AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter. Although the aircraft was never adopted into operational service, the evaluation programme represents a little-known chapter in the modern history of Comando de Aviación de Ejército (Argentine Army Aviation).
This rare patch is believed to have been produced during the Argentine Army Aviation evaluation of the Bell AH-1W Super Cobra in the mid-to-late 1990s. Although the aircraft demonstrated impressive attack capabilities, Argentina did not proceed with the acquisition, making memorabilia associated with the evaluation exceptionally uncommon.
The patch features a striking cobra with raised hood together with the inscription “Bell AH-1W Super Cobra” and the humorous slogan “Snake Makes Us.” Produced as part of the evaluation period, it commemorates Argentina’s consideration of one of the world’s most capable Western attack helicopters.
During the 1990s, the Argentine Army investigated several options to strengthen its rotary-wing combat capability following lessons learned from previous military operations. Among the aircraft evaluated was the Bell AH-1W Super Cobra, a twin-engine attack helicopter developed by Bell Helicopter for the United States Marine Corps. Despite its impressive capabilities, financial constraints and changing defence priorities prevented the acquisition, and the Super Cobra never entered Argentine military service.
This patch dates from the mid to late 1990s.

Introduced during the mid-1980s, the AH-1W Super Cobra became one of the world’s leading attack helicopters. Powered by two General Electric T700-GE-401 turboshaft engines, it carried a crew of two and was capable of employing TOW and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, unguided rockets and a 20 mm M197 three-barrel rotary cannon. The aircraft saw extensive combat service with the United States Marine Corps before eventually being replaced by the AH-1Z Viper.
Because Argentina did not proceed with the purchase, memorabilia associated with the Super Cobra evaluation is exceptionally uncommon. This patch represents a fascinating “what might have been” chapter in Argentine Army Aviation history and is an unusual addition to collections specialising in military helicopters, South American aviation or prototype and evaluation programmes.
This patch dates from the mid to late 1990s.
