Squadron History A 10 Warthog

On 16 October 1991 172 Tactical Air Support Squadron Michigan Air National Guard was redesignated 172 Fighter Squadron at WK Kellogg Airport Michigan and exchanged its OA 37 Dragonfly aircraft for A 10 Thunderbolt II Warthog tank buster ground attack aircraft for close air support missions. The Squadron assigned to 110 Fighter Group deployed and served in several United Nations Operations and contingencies
throughout the world from Bosnia Kosovo Alaska Iraq and Afghanistan.

On 1 March 2009 172 FS was retasked and redesignated 172 Airlift Squadron flying the C 21A Learjets for airlift duties under the renamed 110 Airlift Wing.
