Squadron History

41 Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron Night Photographic was reactivated at Shaw AFB South Carolina on 18 March 1954 equipped with RB 26 Invader aircraft assigned to the 432 Tactical Reconnaissance Group. The Squadron reequipped with RB 66B Destroyer and EB 66C electronic counter measures aircraft in 1956 and was inactivated on 18 May 1959.

The Squadron was reactivated as 41 Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron Photo Jet at Shaw AFB on 30 June 1965 equipped with EB 66C electronic counter measures and EB 66E specialized electronic reconnaissance aircraft assigned to 355 Tactical Fighter Wing and relocated to Takhli RTAFB Thailand on 20 October 1965 for combat operations over Vietnam. The Squadron was redesignated 41 Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron on 15 March 1967 and was inactivated on 31 October 1969.

The Squadron was reactivated as 41 Electronic Combat Squadron ECS on 1 July 1980 at Davis Monthan AFB Arizona assigned to 552 Airborne Warning and Control Wing equipped with EC 130H Compass Call for tactical command control and Electronic Warfare EW communications countermeasures. 41 ECS was reassigned to 28th Air Division on 1 April 1985 and deployed to Bateen AB Saudi Arabia on 27 August 1990 for Operation Desert Shield. The Squadron was attached to Air Division Provisional 15 on 5 December 1990 for Operation Desert Storm undertaking electronic countermeasures combat missions throughout both Operations before returning to Davis Monthan AFB on 17 April 1991. 41 ECS was reassigned to 355 Operations Group on 1 May 1992 and then to 55 Electronic Combat Group Davis Monthan under 55 Wing at Offutt AFB Nebraska on 1 May 2006.
