Squadron History

30 Squadron reformed at RAF Oakington on 24 November 1947 with Dakotas as part of RAF Transport Command and took part in the Berlin Airlift before being re-equipped with Valettas and moving to RAF Abingdon in November 1950. In 1957 the Squadron received Beverleys moving to Kenya in 1959 and then on to Bahrain in 1964. The Squadron disbanded in 1967 due to the drawdown of RAF forces in the Middle East.

The Squadron reformed at RAF Fairford in June 1968 with Hercules proving tactical transport moving to RAF Lyneham in 1971. The Squadron regularly deployed worldwide and has been involved in almost every RAF operation since including the Balkans Africa Afghanistan and Iraq.

On 1 July 2011 the Squadron relocated to RAF Brize Norton with the other Hercules Squadrons to concentrate the RAFs transport and tanker fleets at one base. The Hercules fleet is due to be replaced by 25 Airbus A400Ms.

This patch dates from the 1980s.
