Squadron History 1948 – 2013

32 Squadron moved to Palestine in 1945 with Spitfires in the fighter role before moving again to Cyprus in 1948 and re-equipping with Vampires which were replaced by Venoms in 1955. The Squadron returned to RAF Weston Zoyland for re-rolling for tactical bombing and converting to Canberra bombers in January 1957 prior to relocating to Cyprus. On 3 February 1969 the Squadron disbanded in Cyprus.

The Squadron reformed on 4 February 1969 at RAF Northolt for VIP air transport on the renaming of the Metropolitan Communications Squadron operating a variety of aircraft including Andovers and Whirlwind helicopters. The Squadron received HS.125 CC.1s business jets in 1971 HS.125 CC.2s in 1973 and BAe 125 CC.3s in 1982 and 1983. Gazelle helicopters joined the Squadron in 1976.

On 1 April 1995 The Queens Flight with BAe 146s relocated to RAF Northolt and amalgamated with the Squadron which was renamed 32 The
Royal Squadron. Twin Squirrels helicopters replaced the Gazelles in 1996

In its integrated role 32 The Royal Squadrons aircraft are only available to VIP passengers if not needed for military operations and the Squadron has seen operational action as in-theatre VIP transportation in several recent conflicts including Operation Granby Gulf War Operation Veritas Afghanistan and Operation Telic Iraq 2003. A109Es replaced the Twin Squirrels on 1 April 2006. The Squadron currently operates A Flight with Bae 146s B Flight with A109 helicopters and C Flight Bae 125s.

This patch dates from the 1980s.
