Squadron History 

95 Reconnaissance Squadron was activated on 1 October 1982 at RAF Alconbury England assigned to 17 Reconnaissance Wing equipped with U 2 and TR 1 aircraft to carry out top secret high altitude tactical and strategic surveillance reconnaissance missions in Western Europe in support of NATO and US Air Forces Europe. 

In 1990 and January 1991 the Squadron provided reconnaissance in support Operation Desert Shield and combat operations Operation Desert Storm in over Kuwait and Iraq. 17 Reconnaissance Wing was inactivated on 30 June 1991 but 95 Reconnaissance Squadron remained at RAF Alconbury and was reassigned to 9 Strategic Reconnaissance Wing as a non flying organization. 9 Strategic Reconnaissance Wing was redesignated 9 Wing on 19 September 1991. With the end of the Cold War 95 RS was inactivated at RAF Alconbury on 15 September 1993 and its TR 1As were consolidated into 9 Wing at Beale AFB CA. 

95 Reconnaissance Squadron was reactivated on 1 July 1994 at RAF Mildenhall assigned to Offutt based 55 Operations Group of 55 Wing on the renaming of 922 Reconnaissance Squadron equipped with RC 135 Rivet Joint OC 135 Open Skies and E 4B aircraft. The Squadron conducts RC 135 Rivet Joint flight operations over European and the Mediterranean from RAF Mildenhall and operates Detachment 1 95 Reconnaissance Squadron at Naval Support Activity Souda Bay Crete and provides all operational management aircraft maintenance administration and intelligence support to produce sensitive real time intelligence data combat support and information warfare to national leadership and combat commanders.
