Squadron History

61 Tactical Fighter Squadron was reactivated in June 1975 with the assets of 27 Tactical Fighter Squadron with F-4E Phantom IIs to train pilots and weapons systems officers. The Squadron reequipped with F-4Ds in 1978 with the F 4E models being allocated to operational squadrons.

In April 1980 the Squadron received F-16 Fighting Falcons and was re-designated 61 Tactical Fighter Training Squadron.
