In August 1988 the Squadron reequipped with the twin seat Panavia Tornado F3 at RAF Leeming. Some of No XI Squadrons Tornado F3s were modified to carry the ALARM missile as EF3s to widen their capabilities to include suppression of enemy air defense SEAD in 2003. No XI F squadron disbanded in October 2005.
The Squadron reformed at RAF Coningsby on 29 March 2007 dropping the Fighter F designation in recognition of its new tasking as the RAFs lead Typhoon multi-role squadron.
