History 1956-2013 

When 16 Airborne Division was reduced to single brigade – 44 Independent Parachute Brigade Group TA in 1956 16 Airborne Divisions 44 Parachute Field Ambulance TA became the new Brigades Field Ambulance as 144 Parachute Field Ambulance RAMC TA with HQ was based in Chelsea and with detachments in Nottingham Glasgow and Cardiff.

On 1 April 1967 44 Independent Parachute Brigade Group TA was reorganised and re-designated 44 Parachute Brigade Volunteers. 144
Parachute Field Ambulance RAMC TA was re-designated 144 Parachute Medical Squadron RAMC V.

44 Parachute Brigade Volunteers was disbanded in 1978 but the three volunteer Parachute battalions 4 10 and 15 Scottish and 144 Field Ambulance retained their parachute role. 144 Parachute Medical Squadron RAMC V was assigned to 23 Parachute Field Ambulance RAMC when it enlarged and became part of 5 Airborne Brigade in 1985.

When 5 Airborne Brigade to become 16 Air Assault Brigade in 1999 144 Parachute Squadron Volunteers became the Territorial Army contingent
of 16 Close Support Medical Regiment RAMC formed from the amalgamation of 19 Airmobile Field Ambulance and 23 Parachute Field Ambulance and was re-designated 144 Parachute Medical Squadron RAMC V.
