History 1963 – 1993

103 Air Commando formed on 24 September 1963 at Potchefstroom Airfield as an Active Citizen Force unit staffed by volunteer aircrew and flying civilian aircraft under the South African Army. On 1 October 1968 control of 103 Air Commando was passed from the Army to South African Air Force and was re-designated 103 Squadron. 103 Squadron relocated to Swartkop AFB in 1992.
103 Squadron terminated most flying operations on 31 January 1993 and disbanded on 31 March 1993 with suitable pilots transferred to 106 and 110 Commando Squadrons.
