4392 Aerospace Support Wing was established and organized at Vandenberg AFB on 21 July 1961 assigned to 1 Strategic Aerospace Division to provide base support to the SAC units located there which controlled the operational testing and evaluation of various missile systems on Vandenberg AFB. 4392 ASW included 4392 Combat Defense Squadron to provide security and policing 4392 Communications Squadron to provide and maintain communication facilities 4392 Operations Squadron to provide operational support 4392 Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron providing missile maintenance 4392 Civil Engineering Squadron to provide and maintain accommodation buildings and infrastructure at the base 4392 Transportation Squadron providing and maintain transportation vehicles 4392 Supply Squadron providing and keeping available necessary supplies for the operation of the Base and 4392 Food Services Squadron providing food provision for personnel at the Base.

4392 Aerospace Support Wing was redesignated 4392 Aerospace Support Group and 4392 Operations Squadron was inactivated on 20 December 1961.

4392 Combat Defense Squadron was redesignated 4392 Security Police Squadron on 2 July 1967 in line with USAFs requirement to rename all Air Police Squadrons and SAC Combat Defense Squadrons to Security Police Squadrons. 4392 Communications Squadron was inactivated on 2 April 1969.

4392 Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron was inactivated on 30 May 1975.

4392 Aerospace Support Group was redesignated 4392 Aerospace Support Wing on 1 July 1987. 4392 Aerospace Support Wing was reassigned to Western Space and Missile Center on 15 Jan 1991 and was consolidated with 30 Air Base Group on 19 November 1991 and redesignated 30 Support Group.
