Badge  On a hurt an owl affrontee wings elevated alighting on a seax. The owl represents 151 Squadrons role of night fighting whilst the seax comes from the Arms of Essex in which county the squadron was originally formed in 1918.

151 Squadron was reactivated at RAF Leuchars on 15 September 1951 for air defence of central Scotland equipped with Vampire NF 10 night fighters receiving Meteor NF 11 aircraft in March 1953 and Venom NF 3s in September 1955. The Squadron reequipped with Javelin FAW 5 all weather fighters in June 1957 and disbanded on 19 September 1961. 

Signals Development Squadron at RAF Watton was redesignated 151 Squadron on 1 January 1962 operating a variety of aircraft on radar research development and training duties. It was joined by the pilots and ground crew from the disbanded 97 Strategic Missile Squadron from RAF Hemswell and renumbered 97 Squadron on 25 May 1963. 

151 Squadron reformed at RAF Chivenor on 18 September 1981 as one of two Squadrons of 2 Tactical Weapons Unit TWU equipped with Hawk T1 and T1A aircraft to instruct pilots in low level formation flying evasion exercises air combat air to air and air to ground weaponry prior to operational conversion training. The Squadron also provided aggressor Dissimilar Air Combat Training DACT at low level against types as diverse as Jaguars Buccaneers Helicopters and Hercules transport aircraft and all the Air Defence types at medium level. The Squadron also had a supplementary air defence role as part of the mixed fighter force with the Hawk T1As modified to carry a pair of AIM 9L Sidewinder air to air missiles to act as point defence fighters and capable of helping out dedicated F 4 Phantom and Tornado F3 fighter aircraft in an emergency. When 2 TWU was redesignated 7 FTS on 1 April 1992 151 Squadron was disbanded and its duties transferred to 92 Reserve Squadron.
