Squadron History 

1 Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron ERS was activated at RAF Akrotiri in 2006 on the redesignation of 99 Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron ERS equipped with two U 2 reconnaissance aircraft to continue Operation Olive Harvest the monitoring of the ceasefire agreement between the Egypt and Israel together with additional reconnaissance missions over the Middle East to monitor flash points including Afghanistan Iraq Syria and Libya. 

Operational aircraft personnel and support for the Squadron is provided by 9 Reconnaissance Wing at Beale AFB and is tasked by 401 Air Expeditionary Group AEG. The Squadron provides support for U 2 reconnaissance aircraft which transit through RAF Akrotiri on missions from Beale AFB.
