Wing History 

691 Electronic Security Wing was activated on 21 June 1988 at Lindsey Air Station West Germany on the redesignation of 6910 Electronic Security Wing to undertake the planning programming logistics and systems engineering expertise to execute cryptologic operations to provide electronic intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance to national decision makers. The Wing was assigned to European Electronic Security Division of Electronic Security Command. The wing established Detachment 4 691 ESW at Stuttgart Army Airfield Germany on 15 July 1988. 691 ESW was inactivated on 1 October 1991. 

The Wing was reduced to Group status and reactivated as 691 Intelligence Group at RAF Menwith Hill England on 10 January 2008 assigned to 70 ISR Wing responsible for cryptologic electronic intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance. The Group controlled 451 Intelligence Squadron at RAF Menwith Hill and Detachment 1 451st Intelligence Squadron at RAF Digby UK. The Group was redesignated 691 Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group on 1 January 2009.
