Squadron History 

451 Intelligence Squadron IS was activated on 1 October 1993 at RAF Menwith Hill on the redesignation of 6951 Electronic Security Squadron assigned to 544 Intelligence Group to provide orbiting satellite generated optical and electronic reconnaissance and cyber intelligence for combat support. The Squadron provided 451 IS Detachment 1 to operate at RAF Digby. The Squadron has deployed assets for intelligence missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. 451 IS was redesignated 451 Information Operations Squadron IOS on 1 October 2000 reverting to 451 Intelligence Squadron IS on 1 April 2007.

451 IS was reassigned to 691 Intelligence Group on 31 January 2008 and deployed assets for intelligence missions in Libya.
