Following its WWII service as part of Army Air Force School Of Applied Tactics and experimental flight testing 445 Fighter Squadron was reactivated as 445 Fighter Interceptor Squadron in March 1953 at Geiger Field WA under Air Defense Command receiving F-86D Sabre interceptors in July 1953. From a standing start the Squadron became the finest combat unit in the Western Air Defense Force in July 1954 when on Operation Checkpoint a joint SAC-ADC exercise both the pilots and the aircraft maintenance became the best in ADC.

445 FIS was transferred to Wurtsmith AFB Michigan in 1955 and reequipped with F-89D Scorpions to carry out air defense duties over the Great
Lakes and upper Midwest. F-89G Scorpion were received in March 1956 and upgraded to the F-89J in September 1957.

The Squadron re-equipped with F-101B Voodoo supersonic interceptors and F-101F fully combat-capable operational and conversion trainers
in 1960. 445 Fighter Interceptor Squadron was inactivated on 30 Sep 1968 with its Voodoos passed on to the Air National Guard as part of the general drawdown of the ADC active-duty interceptor force.

The Squadron was reactivated at Edwards AFB CA on 1 Oct 1969 as the Air Force Systems Command 6512 Test Squadron to manage all
aircraft types not assigned to the various test centers or Flight Test Squadrons. The Squadron was re-designated 445 Test Squadron on 2 Oct 1992 and 445 Flight Test Squadron on 1 Mar 1994 and was inactivated on 30 Nov 2001. 445 Flight Test Squadron was re-activated on 11 Mar 2004.

This patch dates from the 1960s.
