Squadron History
On 25 July 1964 68 Squadron was re-designated as Tactical Fighter Squadron reassigned to Tactical Air Command and re-equipped with F-4C Phantom IIs in 1964 Based at George AFB CA the Squadron deployed to Thailand in 1964 and 1965 flying air superiority missions over North and South Vietnam during the early stages of the USs involvement in the conflict. The Squadron returned to George AFB and in February 1966 was tasked with replacement training unit of F-4 aircrews for Vietnam.
68 TFS relocated to Homestead AFB FL on 1 October 1968 and deployed to South Korea in June 1969 in the wake of the Pueblo Crisis. The Squadron returned to the United States on 9 December 1969 leaving their F-4 Phantoms in South Korea. The Squadron relocated to England AFB Louisiana on 30 November 1970 and re-equipped with F-100 Super Sabres. 68 TFS relocated to Clark AFB Philippines on 30 September 1973 and reequipped with F-4E Phantom IIs.
68 Tactical Fighter Squadron returned to the US located at Moody AFB GA on 30 September 1975 with F-4E Phantom IIs deploying overseas and to Nellis AFB NV for Red Flag and Green Flag Exercises. The Squadron re-equipped with F-16C D Falcons in 1987 and deployed aircraft and personnel to Ramstein AB West Germany from 30 May to 5 July 1990 and to Saudi Arabia from 26 June to 22 December 1991.
