Wing History 

11 Support Wing was activated at on 15 July 1994 at Bolling AFB Washington District of Columbia assigned to Air Force District of Washington AFDW as a Direct Reporting Unit DRU to the Vice Chief of Staff USAF as the single manager for all USAF activities supporting Headquarters Air Force at the Pentagon and other Air Force units in the National Capital Region and for related Geographically Separated Units GSUs worldwide. 11 Support Wing was redesignated 11 Wing on 1 March 1995 and a new motto The Chief’s Own was approved on 6 February 1996 to reflect that the Chief of Staff of the United States personally created the organization. 

Within hours of the 11 September 2001 attack on the Pentagon and World Trade Centre New Yorks, Headquarters Air Force relocated to Bolling AFB without any break in operations. 11 Wings worldwide support mission was reallocated to Air Force District of Washington AFDW on 1 January 2005. 

11 Wing relocated to Joint Base Andrews Maryland on 1 October 2010 became host unit for the base and the parent organization of 1 Helicopter Squadron which provides Capitol area airlift for the Executive Branch high ranking dignitaries high ranking military leaders and other VIPs as well as local SAR.. The Wing activated 811 Force Support Squadron to support Air Force District of Washington AFDWs worldwide mission with its administrative management of approximately 40000 Air Force military and civilian members in 250 locations.
