History

4 Aviation Field Depot Squadron was activated at Sandia Base NM on 16 November 1950 assigned to USAF Special Reporting Agency. The Squadron relocated to RAF Brize Norton England on 6 July 1951 assigned to US Air Force Europe USAFEs 7 Air Division but attached to 7503 Air Support Wing to provide Special Weapons support for nuclear and conventional munitions for SACs Brize Norton Task Force Provisional of rotationally TDY deployed B 29 and B 50 Superfortress strategic bombardment Squadrons.

Strategic Air Commands 7503 ASW was redesignated 3920 Air Base Group took over 7503 ASWs responsibilities including 4 AFDS on 1 December 1952. The first SAC B 47 Stratojets arrived at RAF Brize Norton for 90 days duty in 1953 from 306 Bombardment Wing commencing SACs rotational Reflex deployments from the US.

4 Aviation Field Depot Squadron was redesignated 4 Aviation Depot Squadron on 8 November 1954 and relocated to RAF Greenham Common on 1 October 1955 to provide Special Weapons support for nuclear and conventional munitions for SAC rotationally TDY deployed strategic bomb Squadrons. 4 Aviation Depot Squadron was reassigned to 3909 Combat Support Group on 1 February 1959 and was redesignated 4 Munitions Maintenance Squadron on 1 July 1960. Project Clearwater ended SAC deployments at the end of 1963 and 4 MMS was Inactivated on 30 June 1964.

4 Munitions Maintenance Squadron was reactivated at Seymour Johnson AFB on 1 March 1971 assigned to 4 Tactical Fighter Wing to provide weapons support for the Wings F 4 Phantom Squadrons deployed operations over Vietnam and to Europe. 4 MMS was inactivated on 1 June 1977.
