811 Air Base Group was activated at Turner AFB on 1 July 1952 814 by Strategic Air Command assigned to 40 Air Division to provide base support to the SAC units located there including 508 Fighter Escort Wing equipped with F 84 Thunderjets for SAC bomber escort. 811 ABG included 811 Air Police Squadron to provide security 811 Operations Squadron to provide operational support 811 Installations Squadron to provide and maintain accommodation buildings and infrastructure at the base 811 Motor Vehicle Squadron providing and maintain transportation vehicles 811 Supply Squadron providing and keeping available necessary supplies for the operation of the Base and 811 Food Services Squadron providing food provision for personnel at the Base.

811 ABG provided base services to 4080 Strategic Reconnaissance Wing following its activation at Turner AFB in May 1956. 811 Motor Vehicle Squadron was redesignated 811 Transportation Squadron on 8 October 1956 in line with the redesignation of all Motor Vehicle Squadrons by USAF.

With SAC ending its fighter escort mission Turner AFB was readied for transfer from SAC to Tactical Air Command TAC and 811 Air Base Group was inactivated  on 25 September 1957.
