History

806 Bomb Wing Provisional P was activated at RAF Fairford England on 5 February 1991 with B-52G Bombers gathered together from a number of US based USAF Squadrons forming the composite 806 Bomb Squadron Provisional to carry out long distance bombing missions on targets in Iraq and Iraqi controlled Kuwait as part of Operation Desert Storm. The Wing was temporarily attached to 7 Air Division Ramstein AB Germany which had been activated in 1978 to provide command and control for SAC units assigned to USAFE. 

806 Bomb Squadron Provisional was made up from 62 Bomb Squadron of 2 Bomb Wing Barksdale AFB 524 Bomb Squadron of 379 Bomb Wing Wurtsmith AFB 668 Bomb Squadron of 416 Bomb Wing Griffiss AFB 340 Bomb Squadron of 97 Bomb Wing Eaker AFB and 42 Munitions Maintenance Squadron MMS from Loring AFB. Following the successful campaign 806 Bomb Wing Provisional and its operational Squadron was inactivated March 1991.

806 Security Police Squadron provided security to 806 Bombardment Wings operational base at RAF Fairford.
