Squadron History F 16 Fighting Falcon

176 Tactical Air Support Squadron Wisconsin Air National Guard at Truax ANGB Wisconsin was redesignated 176 Fighter Squadron on 16 March 1992 with 128 TFW becoming 128 Fighter Wing. With the new era of political correctness the Squadron changed its name from Raggidieass Militia to Badger Air Militia. In April 1993 the Squadron transitioned from A 10A Thunderbolt II ground attack aircraft to F 16 C D Fighting Falcon fighters for air interdiction and close air support CAS.

The squadron was reassigned to the new 115 Operations Group when 128 Fighter Wing was redesignated 115 FW by the Wisconsin National Guard Bureau as the 128 designation was being confused with 128 Air Refueling Wing another Wisconsin Air National Guard unit.

176 FS undertook training and combat deployments abroad including Operation Coronet Chariot at Karup AS Denmark in 1994 Operation Northern Watch Incirlik AB Turkey in 1997 Operation Southern Watch Al Jaber AB Kuwait 1997 to 1998 Operation Southern Watch Prince Sultan AB Saudi Arabia 1999 Operation Coronet Nighthawk Curacao Netherlands Antilles in 2001 Operation Noble Eagle from 11 September 2001 and Operation Enduring Freedom Al Udeid AB Qatar 2004 to 2005. The Squadron celebrated its 60 Anniversary in October 2008.
