Squadron History A 10 Warthog
On 1 October 1981 176 Tactical Air Support Squadron Wisconsin Air National Guard was redesignated 176 Tactical Fighter Squadron at Truax Field Wisconsin exchanging its OA 37B Dragonfly for A 10 Thunderbolt II Warthog tank buster ground attack aircraft for close air support missions. The Squadron deployed its A 10s on various exercises including Operation Coronet Cove to Panama and Checkered Flag missions to NATO bases in West Germany and England.
176 TFS was redesignated 176 Fighter Squadron on 16 March 1992 with 128 TFW becoming 128 Fighter Wing. In 1993 the Squadron transitioned from A 10As to F 16 C D Fighting Falcon for air interdiction and close air support CAS.
