History
Operation Joint Endeavor commenced 6 December 1995 with Ramstein based 37 AS C 130s delivering the Implementation Force IFOR peacekeeping force troops and supplies to Bosnia in support of Dayton Peace Accord. Air Mobility Command AMC provided airlift Squadrons deploying from US Airlift Wings to provide heavy lift capability with 62 Airlift Wing McChord AFB WA with C 141 Starlifter aircraft 436 Airlift Wing Dover AFB with C 5 Galaxy and 437 AW from Joint Base Charleston with C 17 Globemaster transport aircraft together with Air Force Reserve AFRES elements.
Air refueling permitted air bridge operations over the Atlantic with fuel supplied by aircraft from the Northeast Tanker Task Force or European Tanker Task Force with the primary offload location Rhein Main AB Germany initially allocated as the hub for intratheater airlift and a stage base. Ramstein AB Germany primarily used for C 130 missions down range also became a destination for flights from the US and eventually took over hub responsibilities from Rhein Main AB.
The Director of Mobility Forces DIRMOBFOR deployed to Vecenza Italy to manage the theater airlift. NATOs Regional Air Movement Coordination Center with DIRMOBFOR as dual commander and the Airlift Coordination Cell function were colocated and integrated into one organization serving as DIRMOBFORs staff. Tanker Airlift Control Elements TALCE were located at Tuzla Bosnia Zagreb Croatia Ramstein AB and Rhein Main AB Germany Budapest and Taszar Hungary Aviano Brindisi and Pisa Italy Belgrade Serbia and Gulfport Mississippi.
In addition to the C 130 force C 17s C 141s and C 5s also carried out intratheatre airlift from Ramstewin and Rhein Main and the Operation demonstrated the ability of the C 17 to carry large payloads and outsize cargo into small airfields including the limited airfield at Tuzla which was the major port of debarkation in Bosnia Herzegovina.
Operation Joint Endeavor finished on 21 December 1996 when the IFOR mission was transferred to Stabilization Force SFOR.
This patch dates from 1996.
