History
10 Troop Carrier Squadron was reactivated at AAF Station Munich Reim Germany on 30 September 1946 equipped with C 47 Skytrain assigned to 60 Troop Carrier Group to provide intra theater cargo transport. The Squadron relocated to Kaufbeuren AB Germany on 8 May 1948 following the closure of Munich Reim.
10 TCS was redesignated 10 Troop Carrier Squadron Medium on 1 July 1948 and transitioned to C 54 Skymaster transport aircraft moving to Wiesbaden AB Germany on 10 August 1948. The Squadron was redesignated 10 Troop Carrier Squadron Heavy on 5 November 1948 and deployed to RAF Fassberg on 26 November 1948 at the beginning of the Berlin Airlift undertaking continuous missions transporting supplies and equipment along the Berlin Air Corridor across the hostile Soviet Zone to airports in West Berlin. During the airlift the Squadron moved to Wiesbaden AB on 16 May 1949 Rhein Main AB on 26 September 1949 returning to Wiesbaden AB on 20 October 1949 and converted to C 82 Packet transport aircraft. 10 TCS H was redesignated 10 Troop Carrier Squadron Medium on 16 November 1949.
The Squadron relocated to Rhein Main AB West Germany on 5 July 1950 and transitioned to C 119 Flying Boxcar transports in 1953. The Squadron relocated to Dreux Louvilliers AB France on 23 September 1955 and was reassigned to 60 Troop Carrier Wing on 12 March 1957 before being reassigned to 322d Air Division on 25 September 1958. With the reduction of USAFE forces in France 10 TCS M was inactivated on 8 January 1961.
The Squadron was reactivated as 10 Air Transport Squadron at Chanute AFB Illinois on 15 October 1969 assigned to 2d Aircraft Delivery Group under Tactical Air Command equipped with VT 29A VIP transport aircraft for special airlift duties. The Squadron reequipped with C 131 Samaritan medical evacuation aircraft in 1970 before inactivation on 30 September 1970.
The Squadron was reactivated as 10 Military Airlift Squadron MAS at Zweibrucken AB West Germany on 15 January 1984 assigned to 322 Airlift Division equipped with C 23 Sherpa short range transports for personnel movements within USAFE providing scheduled flights between Zweibrucken Ramstein and other USAFE bases replacing the previous C 130 Hercules European Shuttle service. The Squadron was reassigned to 608 Military Airlift Group on 15 March 1984. 10 MAS was inactivated on 31 March 1991 as part of USAFE drawdown at the end of the Cold War.
The Squadron was reactivated as 10 Airlift Squadron at McChord AFB Washington on 1 October 2003 assigned to 62 Operations Group equipped with C 17 Globemaster III to train aircrew for C 17 operations.
