Squadron History

1709 Air Refueling Wing Provisional AREFW P formed in September 1990 at King Abdulaziz Airport Jeddah Saudi Arabia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm to provide air refuelling support to coalition forces.  

The Wing controlled KC-135E/A Stratotanker aircraft with six aircraft deployed from 336 Air Refueling Squadron 452 Air Refueling Wing March AFB 31 December 1990 to March 1991 three aircraft deployed from 68 Air Refueling Wing Seymour Johnson AFB North Carolina 31 December 1990 to March 1991 and four aircraft deployed from 72 Air Refueling Squadron 434th Air Refueling Wing Grissom AFB Indiana 5 January 1991 to March 1991. 

The Wing was inactivated on 14 March 1991
