History

311 Air Commando Squadron was activated on the renaming of 311 Troop Carrier Squadron Assault based at Da Nang AB Vietnam on 8 March 1965 equipped with C 123 Provider aircraft to provide flare communications air evacuation search and rescue cargo and passengers missions in support of I and II Corps. The Squadron relocated to Phan Rang AB Vietnam on 21 July 1967 and was redesignated 311 Special Operations Squadron on 1 August 1968 and became 311 Tactical Airlift Squadron on 1 January 1970 before Inactivation on 5 October 1971.
