156th Aviation Company Radio Research was activated at Can Tho Vietnam on 1 June 1966 equipped with RU 8D electronic intelligence ELINT aircraft assigned to 224th Aviation Battalion in support of IV Corps tactical group tasked with enemy signal intelligence monitoring. In carrying out its numerous classified missions the Company was awarded Meritorious Unit Commendations 1966 1967 1967 1969 and 1971 1972 the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm 1970 1971. 156th Aviation Company Radio Research is credited with participation of the following campaigns in Vietnam Counteroffensive Summer Fall 1969 Counteroffensive Phase II Winter Spring 1970 Counteroffensive Phase III Sanctuary Counteroffensive Tet Counteroffensive Counteroffensive Phase VII Counteroffensive Phase IV Consolidation I Counteroffensive Phase V Consolidation II Counteroffensive Phase VI Cease Fire Tet 69 Counteroffensive. 

The Company transferred its mission to 146th Aviation Company and returned to Fort Bliss Texas on 27 April 1972 continuing to operate RU8D Twin Bonanza aircraft. 156th Aviation Company Radio Research was redesignated 156th Army Security Agency Company on 5 November 1973. 156th Army Security Agency Company was disbanded with its assets and personnel forming Companies B and C of 15 Military Intelligence Battalion activated at Fort Hood Texas on 21 April 1978.
