Following WWII combat service in the Pacific equipped with Ventura bomber aircraft 1 Squadron RNZAF was disbanded at Emirau Island in September 1945.

1 Squadron was reactivated at Auckland in the reserve Territorial Air Force in 1949 equipped with Harvard training aircraft and Mustang fighter aircraft before inactivation in 1955.

The Squadron reformed at Whenuapai Air Base in 1972 equipped with six Bristol 170 Freighter Mk 31 aircraft tasked with medium range transport duties. 1 Sqn reequipped with six Andover C 1 transport aircraft in 1977.

1 Squadron was disbanded on 7 December 1984 and its Andovers were transferred to 42 Squadron.

This patch dates from 1975.
