Squadron History 1949 1979
717 Skv Squadron originated from 1 Photo Reconnaissance Wing which was based at Gardermoen Air Base in 1949 with three Supermarine Spitfire PR XI. The Wing disbanded and reactivated in 1954 with Republic F 84E converted for
photo reconnaissance as part of 338 Skv Squadron at Sola Air Base Stavanger. After reassignment to 334 Skv the unit was renamed 717 Photo Reconnaissance Wing.
717 Wing was allocated Squadron status in 1956 and in 1961 re located to Rygge Air Base where F 5 configured as RF 5AG recon aircraft replaced the F 84s in 1969 to continue the reconnaissance role. The squadron disbanded in August 1979.
This patch dates from the 1970s.
