338 Skv Squadron was formed at Sola Air Station Stavanger on 15 February 1954 equipped with the F 84G Thunderjet aircraft. The Squadron relocated to Orland Air Station in October 1954 and in June 1958 received its first F 86F Sabre jets completing the transition in the
spring of 1960.
338 Skvadron reequipped with F 5 Freedom Fighter aircraft in 1966 and transitioned to F 16 Fighting Falcons in 1985.
When 336 Tiger Squadron disbanded in June 2000 the RNoAF did not want to lose its place within the NATO Tiger Association so the Air Force handed Norways Tiger Squadron mantle to 338 Skv and the Squadron became a full member in 2003.
As part of NATOs Immediate Reaction Force 338 Squadron has carried out missions over the Balkans and Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom.
This patch dates from the late 1980s.
