Squadron History 1984-2001

Esk 723 replaced its F-104G CF-104D Starfighter with F 16s becoming fully operational in March 1984 at Aalborg Air Base. Esk 723 was tasked with training F-16 pilots while retaining the Squadron remained operational for not only Air Defence but also had role an attack mission making it a true multi role Squadron.

With the introduction of the MLU version of the F 16 and the limited number of airframes it was decided that Esk 723 would disband on January 8th
2001 leaving Esk 726 as the only flying unit at Aalborg AB. Esk 726 disbanded in December 2005 bringing a close to all F-16 operation at Aalborg AB.

In total Esk 723 flew with the F 16 Viper for 18 years with a total of 39,113 hours and took part in Operation Allied Force at Grazzanise AB Italy
March-June 1999.
