Squadron History 1984 2001

Esk 723 replaced its F 104G CF 104D Starfighter with F 16s becoming fully operational in March 1984 at Aalborg Air Base. Esk 723 was tasked with training F 16 pilots while retaining the Squadron remained operational for not only Air Defence but also had role an attack mission making it a true multi role Squadron.

With the introduction of the MLU version of the F 16 and the limited number of airframes it was decided that Esk 723 would disband on 8 January 2001 leaving Esk 726 as the only flying unit at Aalborg AB. Esk 726 disbanded in December 2005 bringing a close to all F 16 operation at Aalborg AB.

In total Esk 723 flew with the F 16 Viper for 18 years with a total of 39113 hours and took part in Operation Allied Force deployed to Grazzanise AB Italy March June 1999.
