434 Squadron Bluenosers reformed on 1 July 1952 as 434 Fighter Day Squadron equipped F 86 Sabre fighter aircraft at RCAF Station Uplands. The Squadron relocated to RCAF Station Zweibrücken Germany under 3 Fighter Wing 1 Air Division Europe on 7 March 1953 as part of the Canadian contribution to NATO. The Squadron was reassigned to all weather strike and reconnaissance and was stood down on 16 June 1962.
Selected as one of eight squadrons in 1 Air Division Europe to be reequipped with CF 104 Starfighter aircraft for the nuclear strike role 434 Fighter Squadron was deactivated on 15 January 1963 and reactivated with Starfighters in the strike attack role on 8 April 1963. 434 Squadron was deactivated on 1 March 1967 when 1 Air Division was reduced to six squadrons.
The Squadron was reformed as 434 Operational Training Squadron on 15 February 1968 at CFB Cold Lake Canada with CF 5 Freedom Fighters as the CF 5 Operational Training Unit providing multi purpose Tactical Fighter and Operational Training in Close Air Support Interdiction Photo Reconnaissance and Air Superiority. The Squadron transferred its OTU duties to 419 Squadron and was renamed 434 Tactical Fighter Squadron in April 1975 with its CF 5 Freedom Fighters tasked with Rapid Reaction standing ready to deploy to Europe in event of hostilities. The Squadron relocated to CFB Bagotville on 15 July 1982 and moved to CFB Chatham in July 1985. 434 Tactical Fighter Squadron disbanded in 1988.
The Squadron reactivated as 434 Composite Squadron on 4 July 1992 at CFB Shearwater forming from half of 414 Squadron and VU 32 equipped with CC 144 Challenger and CT 133 Silver Star aircraft to provide air targets and electronic warfare support for other air force fighter squadrons naval ships and army anti-aircraft batteries as well as maritime reconnaissance patrols with the Challengers. The Squadron was renamed 434 Combat Support Squadron and relocated to CFB Greenwood in August 1995. 434 Combat Support Squadron was disbanded in May 2000 with the retirement of the Challengers and the Silver Stars.
