On 1 February 1989 the flying training units at RAF College Cranwell were redesignated 3 FTS Flying Training School equipped with Jet Provost aircraft to provide flying training of pilots following completion of their officer training at the College.
In 1995 3 FTS took over the CFS Bulldog element which was later replaced by the CFS Tutor element. In addition 6 FTS Flying Training Schools Dominie and Jetstream aircraft of 45 (Reserve) Squadron were taken over by 3 FTS on the closure of RAF Finningley with the Dominie element becoming 55 (Reserve) Squadron on 1 November 1996.
3 FTS is now responsible for the training of all non pilot aircrew for the RAF and home to CFS Tutor Squadron.
This patch dates from the 1990s.
