2 Flying Training School provided basic helicopter flying training with 1 Squadron on Gazelle helicopters and advanced flying training for pilots and crewmen by 2 Squadron with Wessex helicopters and with SAR Search and Rescue training provided by a detached flight at RAF Valley.

2 FTS was disbanded on 1 April 1997 on the formation of the new tri Service Defence Helicopter Flying School was formed equipped with Squirrel and  Bell Griffin helicopters.
