Fitters attain Aeronautical Engineering qualifications following specialized training at RAF Cosford in respect of flying equipment and survival equipment in a military environment. Based at Flying Clothing Sections at RAF Stations fitters maintain parachutes life rafts aircrew survival equipment and flying clothing and checking that the aircrew equipment is in proper working order including necessary major repairs and making the necessary adjustments to optimize performance for individual aircrew members. Fitters also investigate and assist design of new equipment test and modify current equipment with test pilots of all nationalities at the  Institute of Aviation Medicine at Farnborough.
