At the end of WWII 207 Squadron equipped with the Lancaster bomber at RAF Spilsby to RAF Methwold in November 1945. The Squadron moved to RAF Mildenhall in 1949 and replaced its Lancasters with the Lincoln bomber prior to disbanding on 1 March 1950.
207 Squadron was reactivated at RAF Marham on 4 June 1951 equipped with Washington B 1 bombers. The Squadron took part in the Queen’s Coronation Review at RAF Odiham on 15 July 1953. 207 reequipped with Canberra bombers in March 1954 before being inactivated on 27 March 1956.
207 Squadron reformed at RAF Marham on 1 April 1956 to operate Valient V bombers and deployed for Operation Musketeer the Suez Crisis in October and November 1956 carrying out bombing missions of airfields neutralising the Egyptian Air Force. With the grounding of the RAF fleet of Valient aircraft 207 Squadron was inactivated on 1 May 1965.
207 Squadron reactivated at RAF Northolt on 3 February 1969 to take over the operations and personnel of the Strike Command Communications Squadron equipped with Devon C.2s, Basset CC.1s and Pembroke C.1s. The squadron operated detachments at RAF Wyton and RAF Turnhouse. 207 lost the Basset CC 1 in 1974 and the Pembroke C 1 were reallocated to 60 Squadron in November 1975 to operate with fourteen Devon C 2s. With the RAFs fleet of Devon aircraft being withdrawn from service 207 Squadron was inactivated on 30 June 1984.
207 Squadron Reserve was activated at RAF Linton-on-Ouse on 20 July 2002 when 2 Squadron 1 Flying Training School was awarded reserve squadron status and renumbered at the same time as several other Flying Training Squadrons allocated reserve squadron status gaining the numbers history and traditions of disbanded front-line Squadrons. 207 R was equipped with Tucano T1 trainer aircraft to provide Basic Fast Jet Training for RAF and Royal Navy pilots. Prince William F/O William Wales joined 207R Squadron in 2008 to continue his basic flying training.
The 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review resulted in 207R Squadron becoming a Flight of 72R Squadron at Linton-on-Ouse before being inactivated on 13 January 2012.
207 Squadron was reactivated at RAF Marham on 1 August 2019 equipped with F 35B aircraft as the F-35 Lightning Operational Conversion Unit for the UKs Lightning Force. The Squadron undertakes conversion training to Royal Air Force and Royal Navy pilots and Landing Systems Operators LSOs who support flying from the two Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers and has supported the preparations of 617 Squadron to deploy on HMS Queen Elizabeth as part of Carrier Strike Group 21.
