Unit history 1945 1991

64 Squadron ended the war equipped with Mustang III fighters escorting daylight bombing raids moving to RAF Horsham St Faith upgrading to Mustang IV in August 1945. The Squadron reequipped with Hornet F 1 twin engined fighters in March 1946 relocated to RAF Linton on Ouse in August 1946 and upgraded to Hornet F 3 in April 1948. 64 Squadron reequipped with Meteor F 4 F 8 jet fighters in March 1951 and moved to RAF Duxford in August 1951. Meteor NF 12 NF 14 night fighters were received in September 1956 and the Squadron converted to Javelin FAW 7 FAW 9 all weather fighters in September 1958. 64 Squadron relocated to RAF Tengah in 1964 and disbanded there on 16 June 1967.

64 Reserve Squadron 228 OCU Operational Conversion Unit was re activated at RAF Coningsby on 1 August 1968 providing pilot training for the Phantom FGR 1 and FGR 2 and as Shadow 64 Reserve Squadron to deliver front line capability in the event of war. The unit moved to RAF Leuchars where it was disbanded as 228 OCU and 64 Reserve Squadron on 31 March 1991. 

The unit wore patches for both 64 Squadron and 228 OCU.
