Squadron history 1974 2015

Following a period flying Phantom FGR2s No 6 Squadron reequipped with the Sepecat Jaguar GR1 and T2 at RAF Lossiemouth in 1974. The Squadron then moved to RAF Coltishall, being declared operational in the tactical nuclear role with twelve aircraft and eight WE177 nuclear bombs until 1994 when the Squadrons nuclear weapons were withdrawn.

No 6 Composite Squadron Desert Cats led by Wg Cdr Jerry Connolly with 12 Jaguar GR1As painted in Pink Panther desert camouflage scheme including four in reconnaissance configuration deployed to Thumrait Oman as part of Operation Granby on 11 August 1990 and moved to Muharraq AB Bharain in October.  6 C Squadron was renamed 41 Composite Squadron led by Wg Cdr Bill Pixton in November 1990. The Squadron took part in Operation Desert Storm in February March 1991 for which it received battle honours and later in Spring 1991 deployed for Operation Warden to enforce the Northern No Fly Zone from Incirlik AB Turkey. The Squadron went to Italy for operations over Bosnia from 1993. No 6 Squadron was the last to fly the Jaguar disbanding on 31 May 2007.

No 6 Squadron was reformed 6 September 2010 with Typhoons roled with Quick Reaction Alert QRA at RAF Leuchars.

This patch dates from 1990.
