4 Forward Air Control Flight RAAF was activated on 1 April 1970 at RAAF Base Williamtown equipped with four CAC Winjeel aircraft roled as the forward air control training unit to train Royal Australian Air Force Royal Australian Navy and Australian Army pilots in all facets of Forward Air Control FAC work. The aircraft were fitted with UHF radios the frequency band used for Army tactical nets and smoke rockets for target marking.

4 Forward Air Control Flight participated in most Australian military exercises before it was disbanded on 1 January 1989 becoming C Flight of 76 Squadron.
