8 Gruppo 8 Squadron was activated in 1955 on the renaming of 2 Gruppo eqipped with Vampire jet fighters. The Squadron converting to F 86 Sabres in 1957 and contributed pilots to the Lancierie Neri Lancers Black Aerobatic Team. 8 Squadron disbanded on 1 September 1962.

8 Gruppo 8 Squadron was reactivated at Pratica di Mare AB on 1 June 1976 equipped with adapted C 47 F 27 and PD 808 assigned to 14 Stormo Wing tasked with Radio Misure Radio Calibration Electronic Warfare EW and Electronic Counter Measures ECM. 707 TT aircraft were received when transport and air to air refuelling AAR were added to the Squadrons tasking. The Squadron reequipped with G 222RM and G 222VS aircraft for radio calibration and electronic intelligence and received KC 767A tankers for AAR in 2011.
