149 Squadron was activated at Etzion in July 1976 equipped with A 4 E Skyhawk aircraft adding A 4 N aircraft to its fleet in 1978.

The Squadron began to receive Kfir C2 fighter aircraft in November 1980 retiring the Skyhawks by late 1981.  In 1982 with Israels evacuation of the Sinai following the Camp David accords 149 Squadron relocated to Ovda Air Base. On 19 July 1988 the Squadron relocated to Hatzor. As other Kfir units transitioned to the F 16 Fighting Falcon 149 Squadron received additional aircraft. 149 Squadron disbanded in 1991.
