Squadron History

342 Day Interception Squadron was activated in 1955 equipped with F 86E Sabre aircraft. The Squadron was redesignated 342 Fighter Bomber Squadron and converted to F 84F Thunderstreak fighter bombers in 1964.

In 1969 the Squadron reequipped with F 102 interceptor aircraft and was redesignated 342 All Weather Intercept Squadron. The Squadron received Mirage F 1C fighters in 1975 disbanding in June 2003 on the retirement of the Mirage F 1s.
